Aged care improvements on Bribie Island

Minister Elliot, Jon and Peter Cranna from Bribie Aged Care Services

Jon joined the Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot this week at the opening of the $14.5 million refurbishment and expansion at Bribie Aged Care Services.

The development can care for 20 residents with dementia in a dedicated new wing and brings the number of places at the home to 111.

Like many parts of Australia our area is facing the challenges of an ageing population. The Rudd Government is planning for the future by expanding existing services in residential and community aged care.

Over the next four years the Rudd Government will provide $44 billion to the aged and community care sectors.

Support for local carers

Two services which provide respite for carers in our local area have recently recieved nearly $10,000 in one off grants from the Federal Government.

Respite services provide valuable time off for people who care for their friends or family members.

The Caboolture Day Respite Centre and the Bribie Island Retirement Village Carer Respite Service received around $5,000 each to help provide respite services for local carers.

Nearly 2.6 million Australians provide care for family members or friends. If you want information about emergency respite care in our area call Carelink on 1800 052 222.
