Accommodation Choices for Older Australians

'Accommodation Choices for Older Australians and their Families' is a book which contains information to help older people make decisions about their living arrangements.

I have a number of copies of this book available for locals. The book gives a comprehensive review of all the different options available from full or supported residential care to assistance to stay in your own home. It also has useful advice on issues such as finances and pensions.

The book has been prepared by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs. If you would like a copy please contact my office.

$1 million for Moreton Bay community safety

The Minister for Home Affairs, Brendan O'Connor visited Longman last month and with Jon launched Stage 2 of the $1 million 'Delivering the Safer Suburbs Plan Project.'

The Project will see CCTV and security lighting installed in the Caboolture CBD and the Bribie Island Bridge as well as Redcliffe, Strathpine, Kippa Ring and Deception Bay by the end of the year.

In addition two mobile CCTV surveilance devices will be able to be used in locations around the local area.

The Australian Government is joining with local organisations, including the Moreton Bay Regional Council to make our streets and suburbs safer.

Moreton Bay Regional Council will manage the new equipment and worked with local police to select the locations.

Aged care improvements on Bribie Island

Jon joined Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot at the opening of the $14.5 million refurbishment and expansion at Bribie Aged Services.

The development can care for 20 residents with dementia in a dedicated new wing and brings the number of places at the home to 111.

Like many parts of Australia our area is facing the challenges of an aging population. Bribie Island in particular has long been a popular retirement destination for Queenslanders and people from the southern states.

The Rudd Government is planning for the future by expanding existing services in residential and community aged care.

Over the next four years the Rudd Government will provide $44 billion to the aged and community care sectors.
